Eustace calls on Gonsalves to speak up about Registrar
Leader of the Opposition Arnhim Eustace is calling on Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves to reveal the circumstances which have led to the resignation of the former registrar of the High Court.{{more}}
âHe should come out and say what is the position, what is the problem what has led to this situation,â Eustace said as he spoke on the New Times radio programme yesterday.
The Opposition leader and president of the New Democratic Party (NDP) said he found it âdisgracefulâ to have the High Court registrar resign like that.
Former High Court registrar Tamara Gibson-Marks resigned on May 21, 2014, at the request of Attorney General Judith Jones Morgan, and on June 5, Jones-Morgan filed an application in the High Court for Gibson-Marks to be disbarred because of improper and unprofessional conduct.
âIt is disgraceful to have the registrar of the High Court just resigning so and now we hear the AG filing for the registrar to be disbarred and we donât know why she is being disbarred?â Eustace said.
As he made his opening remarks on yesterdayâs programme, Eustace said he is watching carefully how the situation with regard to Gibson-Marks is being handled.
âI am not carried away by anything about the disbarment, you know; I want to know what else is behind. All this story that we are getting piece and piece and piece of. That is what I want to know, what is all behind it. Not just what will be done about it, I want to know what it is that caused it, so that that canât happen again,â he stated.
âSo donât think this is something that we going to ease up on. We going to be continuing to ask the question, all the time; what has happened that has led us into that situation, where our country is once again, our name is being embararrased, weâre having our Attorney General to go to the court to have the registrar of the court disbarred. Just imagine that. We must be the laughing stock of other people in the region.â
