D’Angelo ties for third

At more than five feet tall, eleven-year-old D’Angelo Dick could easily pass for a second form secondary school student.

The soft-spoken sixth grader however, was described as one of the shyest students at the New Grounds Government School (also known as the Union Methodist Primary School).{{more}}

D’Angelo is one of two students from the school who placed the institution in the record books, by tying with classmate Aaron Isaac-Horne in placing third overall and second for boys in the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA).

When SEARCHLIGHT caught up with Dick, the avid cricket fan and player said that he was overjoyed and thankful when he heard of his achievement.

“I want to say thanks to the good teachers who helped me along the way, as well as my parents and also thanks to God.

“For Math I got 88, 92 for Language Arts and for Science 92,” Dick said with a broad smile.

The future St Vincent Grammar School student said that the Language Arts exam posed the biggest challenge, while the Science exam was the easiest.

He also had some words of advice for the students who would be involved in the CPEA in the upcoming year.

“You have to study hard and balance your time, know when to study and when to play.”

Dick will be in the national spotlight on Thursday this week, when he competes in the finals of the Scotiabank Kiddie Cricket Quiz, in which he took his school to the finals.
