Mother warns son before death
Had Junior McKie listened to his mother, he just might have been alive today.
McKie, 42, a labourer, was struck on the right side of his face with a stone during a dispute at Questelles beach on June 9, at about 9:15 a.m., a police report stated.
Cecelia McKie, Juniorâs mother, said she did not have a good feeling about her son attending {{more}}a Carnival fete that day in Questelles.
âI told him not to go, you know,â she said.
Cecelia said Junior told her he was going to the event with his brother.
She said sometime later, while she was at home, her neighbour called to her, and told her that someone had passed saying Junior got knocked down and was dead.
SEARCHLIGHT spoke to Cecelia as she sat on a bench at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, awaiting the result of a post mortem examination that was being carried out on Juniorâs body.
Details surrounding the incident are sketchy, and some persons with knowledge of what happened declined to speak to SEARCHLIGHT, for fear of retaliation.
Cecelia stated that she never knew her son to be a troublemaker.
Junior is said to have succumbed to his injury on the way to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
Describing her son as quiet, McKie said she doesnât know if her son was involved in any altercation in the past.
âHe was just easygoing. He used to get along well with everybody. Since my son dead, I ainât been able to eat really; is just a drink ah water I drinking,â McKie said.
The mother of six said she feels âreally badâ about the manner in which her first child met his death.
âHe really used to treat to me good, you know. He really used to treat me good,â McKie said as she sat on a bench.
Up to press time, no arrests had been made in the matter. Police are still carrying out investigations.(KW)
