To this end, the IADC will host the sixth in its series of town hall meetings at the Ashton Learning Resource Centre beginning at 6:30 p.m., under the theme: “Preparing to embrace our international airport,” and all residents of Union Island are invited to attend.

Facilitators include: Jennifer Richardson-Herbert – communications officer of the IADC, who will update residents on the progress of construction and investment opportunities in and around the airport; a representative from the fisheries division, who

will look at the impact of the airport on the fishing industry; while a stakeholder in the tourism industry will look at the impact of the airport on the tourism sector.

It is anticipated that out of these discussions persons will go away knowing what they need to be doing now in order to take advantage of the benefits that will come with the operation of the airport.

Presentations will be followed by questions and general discussion. The IADC sees it as essential that people are made aware of what is expected of them and offer some guidance as to how to proceed, so that they are in a better position to take advantage of the opportunities which will come from the operation of an international airport in this country, and is therefore taking the lead in this regard.

Five other town hall meetings have already been held in Kingstown, Stubbs, Sandy Bay, Troumaca and Bequia. (IADC)
