The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, in a release dated May 29, 2014, said to date, 280 cases have been confirmed, 274 on Bequia and six on the mainland.
According to the release, the Ministry is continuing its active surveillance, and advised that early detection and treatment are paramount in the fight against the virus.
Chikungunya was confirmed here in St Vincent and the Grenadines in April.
âGiven that the cases are located primarily on Bequia, the Ministry continues to engage individuals, community groups, civil society and other stakeholders on that Grenadine island to collaborate to eliminate breeding places for the aedes aegypti mosquito that is the carrier of the virus.
âThe Ministry, therefore, seeks the cooperation of everyone as it continues public outreach programmes and vector control measures,â the release said.
