Simmons new Lions Club Chair

For the first time ever, a Lion from the Union Island Lions Club will chair Zone 3C (St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada) in the next lionistic calendar year, beginning in July 2014.{{more}}
Marcia Simmons, a resident of Union Island and treasurer of the Union Island Lions Club, was selected Zone chairperson at the recent 34th Multiple District 60 Convention held in Paramaribo, Suriname from May 13 to 18, 2014.
District 60 is divided into Districts A and B. District 60B comprises Lions and Leo Clubs from the Cayman Islands to Grenada. Zone 3C encompasses Lions and Leo Clubs in St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada.
Simmons will now be part of the District 60B Cabinet, headed by incoming District governor, Vincentian Lion Isaac Solomon, MJF. Lion Solomon will replace the present District governor Lion Izett McCalla, MJF in July 2014.
The convention was held under the theme âpassion for compassionâ and part of the activities was to prepare incoming officers for the new lionistic year 2014 â 2015.
When asked about her new responsibilities as Zone chair, Simmons stated that she will be the representative of St Vincent and the Grenadines and hold zone meetings among other duties.
A nurse by profession, Simmons is a charter member of the Union Island Lions Club, having been a member of the club since its establishment on August 21 2001. She was once the Club president, vice-president, secretary and now treasurer.
Simmons stated that the Club has several activities throughout the year, such as the School Spelling B competition, gift baskets for the elderly and fund-raising activities in the form of cake sales etc, all in fulfilling the Lions motto âWe Serve.â
