World Telecommunications and Information Society Day
The organizers of the activities for this year’s World Telecommunications and Information Society Day say that the exhibition hosted at Heritage Square recently was a success.
Jennifer Creese, attached to the telecommunications department {{more}}of the Ministry of Information Technology, said that the main objective of bringing awareness of Information Technology to the masses was achieved.
âAt the end of the day we hoped the public would be aware of how they can use IT.
âWe wanted them to understand that it doesn’t matter which sector you are in, you can use ICT to do your work, to make life easier for you; so, awareness is what we hoped for at the end of the day and that people would have fun with it too.â
Fourteen organizations, public and private, gathered at the Square, showcasing products and services that are geared towards fostering development and improving the lives of Vincentians.
The department has been observing World Telecommunications and Information Society Day for the past four years with a number of activities, including a march and rally, and mini exhibitions around the country.
Creese pointed out that this is the first time that the exhibition was held on a large scale. The theme for this year’s celebration was âBroadband for Sustainable Development.â(JJ)
