St Vincent South Lions top Sub-District 60B Awards
Deputy Director of the Agency for Public Information (API) Dionne John was among two Vincentians to receive the prestigious Lions Clubs International President Barry Palmer Award at the just concluded 34th Multiple District 60 Convention in Suriname from May 14 to 18, 2014.{{more}}
The prestigious international award was presented to Lion Dionne John and social activist and commentator Lion Junior Bacchus MJF by past international director Zander Campos daSilva, PMJF from Brazil. The awards were in recognition of distinguished achievements in fulfilling the mission of Lions Clubs International.
The two Vincentian Lions were also presented with the District Governor Award for dedicated service as Disaster Response and Mitigation Coordinators by district governor Lion Izett McCalla MJF of Jamaica.
Much to the appreciation of the convention attendees, Lion Dionne, for the second consecutive year was awarded the much talked about and coveted District Secretary of the Year Award from among the 61 Lions Clubs across the region, from Grenada in the north to Cayman in the south. Prior to this, she was also awarded, for the second consecutive year, Zone Secretary from among the Lions Clubs in Grenada and St Vincent and the Grenadines. Her personal accolades contributed to her home club, The Lions Club St Vincent South, being named Club of the Year in 2013 and Lion of the Year.
Her contribution to the Lions Movement is outstanding, as she successfully completed and graduated from the 2013-2014 Lions Clubs International Regional Leadership Institute, along with Lions Artis Davis and Junior Bacchus MJF.
For the 2014/2015 Lionistic year, Lion Dionne will serve as Cabinet secretary treasurer in Sub-District 60B’s Cabinet, headed by district governor Lion Isaac Solomon MJF.
Several other Lions were presented with pins by district governor MCCalla MJF for their years of service.
The delegation of 21 Lions/Leos who travelled to Suriname placed third in the Country Parade, behind Guyana and Suriname, who placed first and second respectively. Their outfits were made by Shernicia Mayers and Evelyn Jardine.
