ULP conducts poll in South Leeward
The decision as to who will run in South Leeward for the Unity Labour Party (ULP) in the next general elections should soon be known.
Prospective candidate Senator Jomo Thomas, speaking on his radio programme Voices, on We FM on Wednesday evening, said âa pollâ had been conducted, {{more}}and the results should be known within a few days.
Thomas, in seeking the approval of the party, is coming up against another lawyer, head of the Financial Intelligence Unit, Grenville Williams.
Candidacy for the ULP in a particular constituency is normally secured by the person who gains the majority of votes in a run-off held among card-carrying members of the party registered to vote in the constituency in question.
A party insider, however, told Searchlight that the poll to which Thomas referred was a recent poll conducted by Barbadian pollster Peter Wickham.
The South Leeward seat is currently held by Opposition parliamentarian Nigel Stephenson, who won it 2,593 votes to 2,394 over the ULPâs candidate David Browne in 2010.
