While answering a question at a press conference on Monday, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves revealed that although no one has accepted his offer as yet, he is offering land for hotel development, in excess of 300 acres, free of cost.
In November 2013, during the distribution ceremony of housing lots at Glebe Hill, Barrouallie, Gonsalves announced that Government was negotiating the construction of a major hotel in the Leeward area.
âI have made the offer to several entities. I say you donât have to pay me for the land. We have 300 and something acres of land. We will put the land in as equity. Value the land. If the land is valued at say $15 million, $10 millionâ¦if the whole project cost $40 million and is $10 million, we will have 25 per cent of it,â he explained.
Gonsalves stated that ALBA was the last entity that the Government had spoken with and reiterated the need for having a large hotel built.
âPlease come, knock down my door. Call me. Write me, talk to me. Let us see and build some more hotels,â he said, in encouragement to private entities, who may have an interest in the project.
The Prime Minister indicated that the Government is also looking into developing marinas, which could be considered floating hotels.(BK)
