DTVE students conduct energy audits

Students of the Division of Technical and Vocational Education (DTVE) of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) have been busy undertaking energy audits of a number at public buildings in SVG.{{more}} This has been part of the coursework requirement for their studies in the subject of Energy Management, a subject which has been recently introduced into the college curriculum. The students’ practical work has included surveys and assessment of the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO head office, Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and their own campus at Arnos Vale.

The students have been evaluating the energy efficiency of lighting, appliances and air conditioning at these sites. They have been identifying ways of reducing the energy used while maintaining the comfort and productivity in the workplaces.

On Tuesday, April 15, the students presented the full report on their findings in regard to the NEMO head office at Old Montrose. The report was accepted by the deputy director of NEMO, Michelle Forbes. Forbes told the students that energy efficiency was extremely important in reducing SVG’s dependence on fossil fuels. She told them that the skills and knowledge they had developed through doing this work will be very valuable in their future, regardless of where that future is.

The students who participated in the project are: Shene Trimmingham, Omar Robinson, Akeda Adams, Kezlon Pope, Adrian Fergus, Jalami Kelly, Erina Sam, De Shawn Roberts and Andrel Billingy. Dr Annie Egan was the lecturer for the subject.
