‘Stand Up Against Violence And Crime’ rally

The sporadic rainfall may have contributed to the poor turnout at the recently held Leave Out Violence In St Vincent and the Grenadines (LOVNSVG) anti-violence march and rally, at the Calliaqua playing field on Saturday.{{more}}

However, for the persons who braved the weather, they were treated to some of St Vincent and the Grenadines’ local talent on display.

The Girl’s High School performed a monologue, speaking on domestic violence. They were followed by calypsonians Queen B and Lady Diya.

The Resistance Heartbeart drummers also delivered a great performance, but the Potential Steel Orchestra seemed to take the spotlight, as most persons gathered around the steelpans to listen to their melodious sound.

Speaking at the event, co-ordinator of LOVNSVG Nailah John said Vincentians have to stand up, come together, forget their differences and remember that the nation belongs to its people.

“This non-profit organisation is here for our women, who are usually the ones that are affected by domestic violence… We can’t be violent to anyone. Not to our men and women. Let us love our children. Our children should not be abused. We have to uplift them, love them and educate them,” she said.

John further beseeched Vincentians to rise up and noted that the time has come when we need to take hold of the nation.

“We want to deliver a message and a strong message to the people of this country that we will not allow violence and crime to take over. I’m asking you to love each other and care for each other,” stated John.

Other performers on the night included: Tabia, Rodney Small, Bomani, Mavrick out of Jamaica, Maddzart, Fireman Hooper and Skarpyon.

This year’s rally was held under the theme: “Stand Up Against Violence And Crime.”

The next rally will be held next year in Barrouallie.
