Open audition call for ‘Kingstown: The Musical’

Theater Arts, a local ensemble company, is calling for actors, singers, dancers, musicians, set and costume designers, and stage hands to audition for an original production to be presented here in May.{{more}} Entitled “Kingstown: The Musical”, the stage play tells the story of a young man visiting St Vincent who falls in love — with the island and the woman of his dreams. Open auditions will be held this Saturday, the 15th of March from 2 to 5 pm at Tranquillity Beach Hotel at Indian Bay. Performers should be prepared to read from a script and to sing. Attendance at rehearsals will be required.

The story was written, and will be directed by Marc Erdrich, a writer and publisher, and Ruth Boerger, an established vocal coach on St Vincent, who has also created some original music for the production. Pam Ratti, who has taught dance for many years, will oversee the dance numbers.

This is not their first production for Theater Arts. In the early ‘90s they were the originators of a radio soap opera, “Oh, Daddy!” which appeared daily on NICE Radio and starred John Horne as Detective Sam Grant, retired; and Ann Marie Hunt as his sleuthing daughter. Subsequently, the trio produced “From Ballads to Broadway”, a musical revue, and a stage production of “Oh, Daddy!” both of which played at Peace Memorial Hall. “Kingstown: The Musical” will play for six performances in a unique outdoor venue at Indian Bay. The creators believe this will be the first time a performance of this kind will be held in St Vincent and the Grenadines. Aside from the lead roles, the production will include a gospel choir and an ensemble cast. Persons wishing more information about the auditions and the production, can call Marc Erdrich or Ruth Boerger at 430-5763. Theater Arts is an arm of Hobo Jungle Educational Programs, Inc, a non-profit organization.
