But chairperson of the National Heroes Advisory Committee, Rene Baptiste told SEARCHLIGHT on Tuesday that the final draft report for the recommendation of this country’s next national hero was expected to be submitted for approval today (Thursday).

Baptiste said that she was unable to say when an official announcement would be made saying that she was not in the position to do so.

“I can’t tell you because that is not in my remit, that is for the prime minister (Dr Ralph Gonsalves),” she said.

“We did a first draft report and I am now on the final draft report. Maybe by Thursday (today) it will be handed in to the prime minister,” Baptiste continued.

And while she did not give any hint on the possible candidate(s), the chairperson stated that the final report did not differ from that of the first.

There has been much speculation within recent times over who the next national hero or heroes would be.

Several individuals have been the subject of discussion for possible candidacy including Hugh Mulzac, Elma Francois, J.P. Eustace, George McIntosh, Ebenezer Theodore Joshua and Robert Milton Cato.

Joseph Chatoyer, the Paramount Chief of the Garifuna people was named as this country’s sole National Hero back in 2002. (DD)
