Since last December’s natural disaster, funds continue to flood in to help the affected persons, and last Friday, the local Taxi Association donated two cheques, totalling $10, 000 to the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) to aid in the reconstruction process.

“We’re doing our bit to helping the reconstruction work that NEMO has been doing,” said president of the association Winston Morgan at the handing over ceremony.

The president revealed that the money was the fruit of the 80 members of the taxi association donating $100 each, while Morgan, also known as “Pops”, donated the remaining $2,000.

“We want to commend NEMO, the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines and other respective persons who made their contribution to this effort,” he said.

Howie Prince, director of NEMO, noted that with the reconstruction process scheduled to begin, the association’s donation was sure to go a long way.

“Contributions like this send a very powerful signal that you are thinking about the plight of our people and that when you go about your daily work, you actually remember that there are other persons who suffer and who are not doing as well as others in the society,” Prince said.

According to Prince, the home reconstruction process is expected to begin this week and any monetary donations at this time will go towards the rebuilding phase. (BK)
