Earlier this month, kitchen designer, Rayan James of Top Drawer Custom Cabinetry was awarded the “Best of Houzz” award for design.

When James spoke with SEARCHLIGHT on Wednesday, he revealed that everyone in his office has been very excited about his achievement. He added that he was very happy to have been awarded, especially since there were other good designers who could have won.

Before migrating to New York in 2010 with his wife, James operated “Exclusive Kitchens” in St Vincent and the Grenadines for seven years.

“I just like seeing spaces come alive, spaces transform. That’s my passion, just doing something different,” James, who grew up in Chapmans, said.

In sharing his love for the art form, the designer encouraged persons who want to pursue a career such as his own, to be dedicated as oftentimes, it can be painstaking.

“It’s not easy. A lot of technical skill is required. Somebody has got to be dedicated to the field. It’s a passion, not a career,” he stressed.

Although he noted that there will be “hits and misses”, the former North Union Secondary School student assured that kitchen design was a great field to work in and encourages persons to go to school and get the necessary education, which may include subjects like Technical Drawing.

The “Best of Houzz” award winner stated that he was grateful to God “for blessing me with the skill”. He also thanked persons who supported him, especially his wife, Anjelique, whom he said “believed in me when no one else did”.

James has over 15 years of experience in the design industry and has been working with Top Drawer Custom Cabinetry for the past three years.

Houzz is a leading platform for home remodelling and design in the United States of America, where home owners can identify with top rated professionals to match their aspirations in home design.
