Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves made the announcement while speaking last Friday in South Rivers at the handover of refrigerators, stoves and mattresses to residents affected by the December floods in that community.

He said that there were about 50 or 60 people affected in this way.

But even as he announced that there will be duty free concessions available, he said that he was advised that he would not be able to waive the four percent customs charge.

Eligible people must first obtain a certificate which is being made available through the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO).

He explained that people submitting their information should include the name of the owner of the vehicle, the licence plate and a description of the extent of the damage – whether it was completely or partially damaged. (DD)
