South Rivers community receives donations

As communities try to rebuild across the island of St Vincent in the wake of the Christmas Eve disaster, the “I am my neighbour’s keeper” rang out in South Rivers earlier this month. Persons braved the weather and came out in their numbers to enjoy a relief concert hosted by the South Rivers Police Youth Club and some concerned persons.{{more}}

Just over $4,300 dollars, a large quantity of clothing and some foodstuff were collected to aid the victims of the area. Besides sharing to the victims in the area, a presentation of some items was made to Hainsworth Andrews, the South Rivers shelter manager. The clothing was also shared with the Police Youth Club of Spring Village to aid victims in that area.

Proprietor Avis Brewster of Brewster’s Auto Supply surprised the organisers with a contribution of $2,000. Brewster grew up in South Rivers and it was his small way of giving back to his family and friends.

The organisers expressed thanks to all donors, The Prime Minister and area representative Dr Ralph Gonsalves, Carib Beer through Coreas Hazells Inc, Coreas Pharmacy/ Food Xpress, The Soca Dans, Skinny Fabulous, DJ Stump I, DJ Cal and DJ Q, Africano Disco, Radcliff and Rivals Cricket Teams, the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, the management of the Kingstown Fish Market, the media, the patrons and all assistants for their support in making the event a success.
