Rape still a concern – COP

This country’s Commissioner of Police, Michael Charles says while crime is on the decline, there are still concerns with the level of rape and violence towards persons.{{more}}

Charles disclosed this earlier this week while speaking to reporters at the Central Police Station.

“We can see that crime is on the decrease according to our stats. However, there is growing concern for the incidence of rape and violence towards persons,” Charles said.

He said the hierarchy is looking at strategic plans for those areas throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines where crimes are being committed.

“This is the way we plan to go. We can’t ease up on training because it is very important to us…,” Charles told reporters.

The newly confirmed Commissioner said he along with other members of the hierarchy and other divisional officers will sit to discuss and chart the way forward for the organization.

“This is not just the commissioner. We will be meeting with other stakeholders, (including) citizens because this is the only way we can move forward; by working as one with the citizens of St Vincent and the Grenadines,” he said.
