SDA Mission distributes meals to flood victims

Administrators, directors, pastors and community services leaders were all part of the distribution programme. In addition to the food distribution, the residents were entertained with gospel singing and music in which many testified and praised Almighty God for seeing them through the terrible ordeal, a release from the Mission said.

“The surviving members of the Nanton family who lost five loved ones in the tragedy were visited, ministered to and prayed for by representatives of the church, including the President, Pastor Dermoth Baptiste and Communications Director, Evangelist Claudius Morgan. It was indeed heart-rending and agonizing to listen to the tragic stories about the events of that fateful night. They were encouraged to trust God for their healing and comfort and to be assured of the fact that Jesus knows all about pain, tragedy and death and can comfort their aching hearts and mend their broken spirits,” the release said.

“In addition to the feeding programme in Rose Bank, community services members and pathfinder groups were actively engaged in assisting in the cleaning of houses in the South Rivers and Vermont communities. The churches, in their New Year’s service on Tuesday night, had special prayers for St Vincent, its people and leadership as we attempt to manage this national crisis. A special gift of love and thanksgiving was collected as part of the disaster relief effort.

“Our overseas agency ADVENTIST DEVELOPMENT AND RELIEF AGENCY (ADRA) has been notified and will be partnering with us in the response and recovery efforts. The church is in sympathy and solidarity with the Government, people, relief agencies and families who suffered loss of lives and material losses in this catastrophe,” the release said.
