CIBC lends a hand to Buccament community

As the outpouring of generosity to those affected by the Christmas disaster continues, the CIBC First Caribbean International Bank, over the weekend, reached out to persons in the Buccament Bay community.{{more}}

On Saturday, January 4, members of the bank’s staff journeyed to the Buccament Bay Secondary School, where 56 displaced persons have been relocated.

According to Alicia Veira and Christal Oliver, members of the Bank’s Social Activities Committee, last Saturday’s gesture is the first of a number of presentations to be made to victims of the flooding that left nine persons dead, three missing and hundreds homeless and displaced.

“We are trying to help members of this community, along with those persons who are staying at the shelter, by providing non-perishable food items items, as well as clothes and water,” Veira indicated.

Oliver added that the gesture extended beyond the bank’s staff, with family members and friends pitching in and contributing to the effort.

The items were handed over to shelter managers Steven Derby and Vivian McDowall, who thanked the bank for their care and consideration, and said that the items were well needed and appreciated.

Oliver also indicated that donations will also be made to persons affected in other communities, as the bank’s outreach continues.(JJ)
