PM’s security detail cut

The security detail of Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves has been cut by more than half.{{more}}

While appearing on the Unrendered television programme on IKTV on December 8, Gonsalves revealed that a decision was taken to have only one vehicle in his security detail, as recent security assessments have shown that threats against him have reduced from a red alert to amber.

He also indicated that he is not responsible for the number of vehicles that are in his security detail.

“That’s the business of the Commissioner of Police and those who are interested with my security. I get the periodic security reports…it shows that the threat has diminished,” the Prime Minister said.

“I posed the question. I said, therefore, I don’t need more than one vehicle now then? I don’t need to have that size of security; we can slash it, so it just happened”.

Gonsalves noted that he does not like to have excessive security around him; however there are cases when “you have to see what is the purpose for something”.(BK)
