According to Major Pierre Antoine, their plan this year is modest â to achieve the same target as 2012 and raise $100,000, which will go towards assisting some of the less fortunate persons this Yuletide season.
But while he says they have maintained the target, anything extra will be welcomed.
Proceeds from the funds raised will also assist the Salvation Armyâs school feeding programme, Major Antoine added.
The school feeding programme has now expanded to over 100 primary and secondary school students from throughout the country
And now there is an additional expense, that of the childrenâs home which also needs to be assisted.
The home, located at Buccament, which was opened in July 2012, now has nine residents.
âSo the public could recognize how the needs are so great, we are asking the public to come with a strong force,â he said.
âWe are thankful to those who gave through the years,â Major Antoine continued.
The launch of the 2013 edition of the Salvation Armyâs kettle appeal took place on Friday, November 15.
âIt was a good launch,â he said.
But the work now begins and according to Major Antoine, volunteers are needed for this yearâs appeal.
Various groups, such as the Girl Guides and the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force have played their part in the past Major Antoine said, but there is still need for more volunteers.(DD)
