Yesterday, during a press conference, chief executive officer of St Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority (SVGTA) Glen Beache announced that the country was recently awarded by a prestigious international organization: the Hospitality, Sales and Marketing Association.

One award came as a result of a 30-minute show done by the Travel Channel, which featured the island chain and was dubbed “Travel Channel brings Authentic Vincy Experience to its viewers: Uncovering SVG’s island sequence”. The other is as a result of a 12-page feature in Sports Diver Magazine, by photographer and freelance journalist, Ted Alan Stedman.

“These awards are not easy to come by. I think Vincentians should feel proud of it and I think it shows that we’re getting the name of St Vincent and the Grenadines out there. We’re pushing the envelope,” Beache said, after congratulating the SVGTA staff, both local and abroad.

The CEO acknowledged that the SVGTA has received negative criticisms in the past, but assured that the association has been making an effort to promote the country’s tourism product.

“We might not have as much resources as our neighbours in terms of how we go about promoting St Vincent and the Grenadines, but it does show that we are getting some things done,” he said.

“I’m not going to say we rest on our laurels, because that’s never been the case but I think some of the times we hear so many of the negative things that when something positive happens we have to give credit where credit is due”. (BK)
