Vincentian nationals donate computers to SVG Consulate in Toronto

Since his arrival in Toronto in late August, the newly appointed Canadian Consul General Fitz Huggins has been approaching Vincentian nationals, the broader business community and the private sector, to consider participating in the many investment opportunities and projects to enhance operations and communities both at home and in the diaspora.{{more}}

One of the first Vincentian nationals to respond to the Consul General’s request was his long time friend, Canadian resident Gilbert Weekes who donated three much needed Acer AXC 600 ES computers, which will greatly improve the operations of the Toronto office. Weekes also volunteered to assist with the design and management of a website to facilitate communications and service to the Vincentian diaspora throughout Canada.

Weekes and his wife Ayana have volunteered to work with the Government in its Early Childhood Education programme. Ayana’s academic background is in early childhood education, with post-secondary education in both childcare management and child psychology. She looks forward to forming the Ayana Weekes Foundation to assist with the government’s Early Childhood Education programme.

Gilbert Weekes is a project manager for Consun Contracting Ltd, an aboriginal heavy construction company based in Alberta, Canada. He indicated that his construction firm is interested in employing workers from St Vincent and the Grenadines and is exploring the qualifications required for workers from St Vincent to work in Canada.

During the Vincentian Independence Day dinner celebration in Montreal, Consul General Huggins expressed his thanks to Gilbert and Ayana Weekes for their contribution of the computers and their interest in continuing to work with the consulate.
