“We are thrilled that the Ministry of Tourism is a principal partner with Naniki Caribbean Jazz Safari. The jazz safari is the first of its kind on the island and it is a highlight of Tourism Week on the St Vincent Festival calendar in the lead up to the Christmas Season,” a release from the organizers said.

The scenic and expansive gardens of the Calliaqua Courts, is the setting for this travelling festival that has been dubbed a “thrilling Caribbean musical ride”. The St Vincent concert follows on from a successful “take off “ in Barbados in January and the Jazz Safari has thrilled music lovers in Antigua and Barbuda and Grenada.

The star attraction is the incredibly talented singer and Grammy nominee, Shontelle; also to be featurrd is the dazzling Guy Marc Vadeleux Trio from Martinque, guitarist Derek McKeith (USA) and his jazz funk band and from Barbados, the Original Unit Jazz Trio, with special guest Vincentian international recording artiste Frankie McIntosh.

Tom Hinds, organizer of the event, is also a well-known promoter of jazz events at his scenic Naniki Restaurant in St Joseph, Barbados. He said that the safari concept was based on moving quality jazz performances to idyllic venues across the Caribbean, and thereby enhancing both the local cultural landscape and the tourism product. He noted that the Naniki Caribbean Jazz Safari would allow local and regional artistes to perform with their international counterparts at home and provide educational opportunities for local music students through a workshop and guitar donations that will take place in partnership with the Travelling Guitar Foundation.
