Workshop on HIV/AIDS for faith-based organizations
The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization, will host a three-day workshop, from November 12 to 14, for leaders of faith-based organizations, at the Methodist Church Hall, from 8:30 a.m. daily.{{more}}
The facilitators of the workshop will be: Dr Robert Wright, Minister, British Virgin Islands; Pastor Shane Franklyn, Donna Francis, Kerry-Ann Hamilton, Samuel Joyles, Jozelle Miller, Florence Olatunji, Ms Roselle Solomon, Sister Margarita Tash and Odinga Warner.
The topics will include human sexuality and the church; basics of HIV/STIs; how people teach â how people learn: a practical approach to HIV/AIDS education; strategic approach to behaviour change; stigma and discrimination; human rights; personal prejudices and bias issues; care and treatment for people living with HIV; mental health and HIV; psychological impact of HIV on behaviour of people living with HIV; and God and sex.
A release from the Ministry of Health said this workshop provides the opportunity for the church, as a caring compassionate community, to reassess and affirm its mandate to better respond to the needs of suffering humanity.
