Students from the all boys institution journeyed to various institutions in St Vincent and the Grenadines to perform some form of community service and deliver food baskets.
As they began their day with a service, the students were inspired by the words of Monsigneur Michael Stewart, who told them that like St Martin de Porres, who dedicated his life to serving the poor and down trodden as he came from a poor family, they should always be willing to help the poor.
Many students expressed joy in being able to give back to their community.
âI felt good giving back to my alma mater, the Kingstown Government School,â Kyle Alfonso, a student said.
Fourth form students, who visited the Loaves and Bread Soup Kitchen stated that âit was a rewarding experience there; we helped the homeless and those in needâ.
As the curtains closed on the day of community service, the students spent their time reflecting on their adventures and some even expressed the desire to continue visiting some of the facilities in the future.
The institutions visited by students of the St Martinâs Secondary School included the Mental Health Hospital, Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen, Happy Days Pre-school, Level Garden Pre-school, St Maryâs R.C. School, Kingstown Anglican School, Salvation Army Pre-school and Soup Kitchen, Aunty Nicholeâs Pre-school, Kingstown Government School, the School for the Blind and the School for Children with Special Needs.(BK)
