Rotaract Spelling-bee Finals set for tomorrow

The stage is set for the 15th edition of the Rotaract Spelling-bee competition, following the wrap-up of the preliminary round earlier this week.{{more}}

Sixty-six primary schools competed in eight zonal rounds of competition, which were held at the Fisheries Complex in Kingstown.

The finals of the Scotia Bank sponsored tournament take place tomorrow at Frenches House, and are slated to begin at 9 a.m.

Eight students will represent their schools, vying for the title of top speller, as well as a wide range of prizes, including a trophy, one laptop computer and six months free Internet service, books, gift packs, and other prizes.

The students who earned their places in the finals are: Cosem Millington of the Layou Government School, Jadyn Delpesche of the Rose Hall Government, Teyanna Williams of the Brighton Methodist, Aldeiah Jacobs of the Union Methodist, Zaida Davis of the Marriaqua Government, Rhianna James of the Lodge Village Government, Derlona Daniel of the Langley Park Government and Anjali John of the Stephanie Browne Primary School.

Jerique John of the St Mary’s Roman Catholic School was the winner of the 2012 edition of the competition.

Besides main sponsor Scotia Bank, other sponsors of the competition include Courts St Vincent Limited, Digicel, Karib Cable, SVG Airways, Jujube Bookstore, Premier Distributors, Central Water and Sewerage Authority, C.K. Greaves, Agricultural Input Warehouse, E. Moussa and Sons, and the St Vincent Brewery Ltd.
