Professor Shepherd to deliver keynote address at UWI Independence Lecture
The University of the West Indies Open Campus will host its annual Independence Lecture at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown on Tuesday, October 22.{{more}}
Professor Verene Shepherd, who delivered a compelling speech during the regional Reparations Conference in September, will be this yearâs featured speaker.
She will be addressing the topic: âCARICOM and the Decade for People of African Descent: A Post Colonial Imperativeâ.
Shepherd is a professor of social history and director of the Institute for Gender and Development Studies at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus, Jamaica.
Deborah Dalrymple, head of the local Open Campus is encouraging Vincentians to attend the lecture.
âWe really want to invite everyone who can possibly come to the Methodist Church Hall,â Dalyrmple said, while speaking at the launch of the Literary Fair on Tuesday.
âWeâre inviting particularly our alumni from the University of the West Indies and, of course, the general public to the lectureâ.(BK)
