Regional insurance company Sagicor Life Inc has pledged its continued support for the recently concluded St Vincent and the Grenadines Coastguard Service Youth Development Summer Programme, now in its 20th year. In recognition of the programme’s anniversary,{{more}} the Coastguard will stage a series of events during the remainder of 2013.

Each year, the programme exposes participants between the ages of 14 and 18 to various disciplines, such as leadership development, safety at sea, conflict resolution, substance abuse prevention and intervention and fisheries conservation. Sagicor Life Inc conducts a session on Budgeting and Saving for the participants.

Coastguard Commander Brenton Cain highlighted the encouraging results of the programme.

“The programme has positively impacted the lives of over 2,000 participants since its inception. Stanley Browne, Agency Manager of Sagicor Life Inc, stated, “We congratulate the Coastguard Service on the 20th anniversary of this stellar programme. Sagicor Life Inc has partnered with the organisation for over 15 years, as we firmly believe that it plays a valuable role in the development of young people in St Vincent and the Grenadines.”

The programme was run in three stages during the months of July and August, under the theme “20 Years, Shaping our Youths for Life’s High Seas”.
