CYEN records largest attendance
The Caribbean Youth Environment Network 2013 summer programme was the largest seen by organizers in three years, with an average of 40 children participating each day, according to organizers.{{more}}
The Childrenâs Environmental Summer Programme was first launched in Canouan in July 2011 and caters for children from the ages of five to 13.
A release from the organizers said the programme is mobile and seeks to reach children in different areas throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines. In August 2012, the programme moved to the town of Layou, St Vincent and in 2013, the organizers partnered with the Green Hill Sports Club to host the programme at the Redemption Sharpes Community Centre. The theme was âHaving Fun While Learningâ. The overall goal of the programme is to build capacity. In essence, the organization seeks to ânipâ the issues of pollution and neglect of the environment âin the budâ.
The Caribbean Youth Environment Network – St Vincent and the Grenadines Chapter (CYENSVG) is a non-profit, youth led, civil society, charitable body that focuses its resources on empowering young people and their communities to develop programmes and actions to address socio-economic and environmental issues.
The CYEN Programme aims at addressing issues such as environmental conservation and social development.
In the three years since being founded, the Caribbean Youth Environment Network St Vincent and the Grenadinesâ (C.Y.E.N-S.V.G) Chapter has played a major role in molding our nationâs children to be future advocates for the environment.
The members of C.Y.E.N – S.V.G thank the Green Hill Sports Club, the Caretakers of the Redemption Sharpes Community Centre, the Central Water and Sewerage Authority, the St Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC), The StVincent Corrugated Containers Inc., Soroptimists International, Mrs Dennie, the Pastor and members of the Redemption Sharpes Faith Deliverance Church, Coreas Mini Mart, Andrew Wilson and the National Parks, Rivers and Beaches Authority, the Redemption Sharpes Community and the general public for their invaluable assistance and continued support.
