FIU piloting ‘Crime Does Not Pay’ poster competition

Fourth and fifth form students in St Vincent and the Grenadines are being urged to participate in the Financial Intelligence Unit’s poster competition on the theme “Crime Does Not Pay”.{{more}}

The competition, which is being piloted here, was launched yesterday at the Central Planning Department conference room in Kingstown, by Director of the FIU Grenville Williams and Eamon Kearney of the Caribbean Criminal Assets Recovery Programme (CCARP).

The men called on students to take up the challenge to show their artistic skills, and to send a clear and unequivocal message, that any benefit derived from criminal activity is shortlived.

“The prizes for this competition include a first place of one laptop and a cash prize of EC $1,000,” Williams announced.

“The second place will get a tablet and a cash prize of EC $500, while the third place will receive a Kindle Fire and EC $250,” he added.

According to the rules, the poster must focus on the theme of the competition. The poster must bear the logo of the FIU, and incorporate elements of the Proceeds of Crime and Money Laundering Prevention Act.

The poster must be an original design and creation of the entrant, and will be evaluated based upon the creativity, effectiveness, demonstration of theme, clarity of message, and appropriateness of the graphic on the poster.

Williams also stated that the competition is set to commence on September 2, and close on December 6, with the winners to be announced on or before January 15, 2014.

Kearney pointed out that the poster competition is about helping to get the message that crime does not pay out in the public domain of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

“I’d like to wish good luck to all those who take part in the competition. I very much look forward to seeing the posters that are produced, and the messages that they convey.”(JJ)
