In answer to a question posed in Parliament by the representative for the Northern Grenadines Dr Godwin Friday about the status of the census and when will the report be completed, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves recounted the setbacks experienced since the census initially began in 2011.

“We had a fire in October 2011 at the Financial Complex, where all the raw data, the questionnaires were destroyed and we had to do over the whole exercise in 2012,” Gonsalves explained.

“We came back in June, which is the census date in 2012,” the Prime Minister said.

“The fieldwork has been completed. The data are now being processed. That is the scan, verify et cetera”.

Furthermore, Gonsalves stated that once the data has gone through the process of scanning and verification, a team will be assembled to complete the report.

“They expect that we have another twelve months in this exercise,” he said.

“I’m hoping that they can give us earlier”.(BK)
