The 3,076 Vincentian candidates who wrote the 2013 Caribbean Examinations Council Secondary Education Certificate Examinations (CSEC) achieved an overall pass rate of 69 per cent, up from 67 per cent in both 2011 and 2012.{{more}}

A release from the Ministry of Education said of the 3,076 candidates, 1,409 were private candidates and 1,667 were school candidates. There were 11,517 subject entries in 33 subject areas from 26 secondary schools. This year, 10.32 per cent of the passes were at Grade 1 level, 23.02 per cent at Grade 2 and 35.98 per cent at Grade 3. Last year’s figures were 7.38 per cent, 25.06 per cent, and 35.56 per cent respectively.

The release revealed that the four schools with the top performances were the Girls’ High School (GHS), which recorded 96.43 percent passes, the St Vincent Grammar School (SVGS), which had 94.06 per cent passes, St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown (SJCK), with 88.27 per cent passes and Thomas Saunders Secondary School (TSSS) with 80.18 per cent.

Additionally, this year’s outstanding results include one student from GHS who gained 13 subject passes with 13 grade ones, eight students from GHS who obtained 12 subject passes and 46 students from GHS and SVGS who achieved 11 subject passes.

The release also stated that 12 schools had obtained creditable pass rates between 60 and 80 per cent.

These schools are: St Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua, Bethel High School, Central Leeward Secondary School, Georgetown Secondary School, Adelphi Secondary School, Mountain View Adventist Academy, Petit Bordel Secondary School, Troumaca Secondary School, Bishops College Kingstown, Bequia Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School, Dr J.P. Eustace Memorial Secondary School and Union Island Secondary School.

Sandy Bay Secondary School was recognized to have the most significant improvement. Its pass rate increased from 34.22 per cent in 2012 to 45.90 per cent in 2013, an 11.68 percent increase.
