Spokespersons behind the promotion, which saw over $11,000 raised for the project in less than three months, made a presentation to the Argyle International Airport Development Company(IADC) through Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne, on July 26.

Fitz Huggins, in his final act at home before leaving for Canada, where he took up the position as Consul General, made the symbolic presentation to Ballantyne, who in turn made a presentation to the IADC, represented by Jennifer Richardson.

Huggins said that he was honoured to have been a part of the fund-raising initiative, which raised EC $11,164.83 for the airport, expected to be completed in 2014.

The campaign started in April this year.

Huggins indicated that the project will continue in his absence by the Cecil Ryan-led Projects Promotions, with receptacles to be left at various locations, including Phil’s Bar at the central market.

In accepting the contribution, Ballantyne thanked Huggins for his work on the project, and challenged him to pursue similar initiatives in his newest position.

Richardson also thanked Huggins and his team for the effort, and considered the contribution as a significant amount towards the airport, estimated to cost EC$648 million.

The public was encouraged to contribute to the campaign, or make their donations to the IADC’s fund-raising account, and were reminded that “Every Dollar Counts”.
