Villagers say that they are not sure what drove 32-year-old Olonyuan Dublin to slash the throat of his younger sibling.
âI donât know why he killed him,â one resident told SEARCHLIGHT.
Another said that he too was perplexed by the gruesome act, adding that he often heard the older sibling say that he wanted to get Adrian out of the house.
Sharette Gerald, Adrianâs former girlfriend, said that she was at home when the tragic incident took place.
Gerald, who resides a short distance from the house where both brothers lived and where the homicide occurred, said she had no idea what led to Adrianâs death.
She said it had been rumoured that Olonyuan was upset about hearing that she and Adrian were planning on reuniting, after breaking up in April this year.
The young woman said that she and the deceased had been in a relationship for seven years and had two children together.
Gerald said she saw Adrian the day before he was killed.
She explained that they were not on terms, but Adrian reached out to her, saying that it was for the sake of the children.
She said that she was saddened by what had taken place, adding that her children now had to grow up without a father.
âItâs going to be hard; they are both in school,â Gerald said.
Adrian had moved back in with his brother when he and Gerald broke up a few months ago, but both men had shared the two bedroom abode for some time before that, after Adrian had moved to St Vincent to live after residing in Trinidad for some time.
But father of both men Maynard Horne said that his sons got aggressive whenever they consumed large quantities of alcohol.
He added, however, that he never expected one to take the life of the other.
âAnd when it happened I felt depressed, like I was in a different world,â the man told SEARCHLIGHT.
He further explained that both young men were heavy drinkers.
Horne said that Adrian was also a user of marijuana.
âThe alcohol stir up anger; when they do not drink, theyâre quiet, but the alcohol does get them in trouble,â the father said.
He further contended that he spoke to his sons on a number of occasions about their attitudes.
âI would say you all are brothers, same mother and father, for you all to behave like that,â the man, a former member of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said.
He, however, said they never heeded his advice.
âThings would have been better if they had followed my track,â he said.
Horne told SEARCHLIGHT that he saw Olonyuan minutes before the incident occurred.
The former police officer lives in Kingstown, but usually spends the night at his motherâs home in South Rivers when he is working his land.
From the time I saw him, I said yes, thatâs rum.â
He continued, saying that Olonyuan came to him saying that he wanted him (Horne) to throw Adrian out, but Horne said he told his son that he could not do that.
Horne said that about 15 to 20 minutes later, Olonyuan returned and told him he had just killed Adrian.
He said that he thought that his son was joking, but then saw a group of people coming towards where they stood.
âSo I said, is true â so I asked him if is true and he said yes,â Horne said.
He said that he kept his son at the location and subsequently called the police.
Horne explained that he did not want to leave his son alone, out of fear that he may have escaped, or worse.
The grieving father said that he last interacted with Adrian about two weeks ago when his son asked him for some work.
He said he told Adrian that he would give him an acre of land for himself, but that there were some ground provisions on the property and once he had reaped them, the land would become his to farm.
Horne, however, maintains that he does not know of any possible motive for the killing.
âThe main thing, I would tell them to change their lifestyle and that they ignored,â Horne said.
A post mortem examination on Adrian is scheduled to be conducted today, August 6.
No one has been charged in connection with the killing.
