Vynnette now facing 15 charges – Opposition Leader
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Colin Williams thinks that persons should inform themselves before they comment on an issue.{{more}}
His opinion came on the heels of comments that were made by the Leader of the Oppostion Arnhim Eustace at a rally held in Layou on Tuesday.
Eustace told the crowd that the DPP had appealed the verdict for Opposition senator Vynnette Frederickâs case, bringing her total number of charges to 15.
âWe have been informed today that the DPP appealed the verdict of the magistrate that threw out the case against Vynnette. He appealed it and if he appealed it, it means that the case will be heard again,â Eustace said. âYou know what the result of that is? Because he appealed and they had already charged her with nine new charges, Vynnette Frederick now faces 15 charges in the courts.â
In addition, Eustace stated that the story was still developing and that persons should look out for what will happen in the future.
âI am sure that you are going to hear much more on this matter, because she will also be able to bring cases of malicious arrest,â the Leader of the Opposition said. âHow you going to charge her with new charges when you appealing the ones that she supposed to have won just a few hours before? You ainât see somebody head gone wrong?
âThey donât know what they are doing and is the same way they donât know what they are doingâ¦to the people of this country and to the reputation of this country in so many ways that can be demonstrated.â
When contacted by SEARCHLIGHT, Williams said that no appeal had been made concerning Frederickâs matter.
âI donât have time for people who donât know what they talking about. Heâs not versed in the law and he doesnât understand what is going on. Make sure your brain is engaged before putting mouth in gear,â the DPP said.
On July 11, six charges on Frederick were struckout on grounds that they lacked particulars and details. However, she was re-arrested shortly after, and now faces three additional charges along with the revised six charges.
