Rainbow Unique Nursery and Pre-school stands chance at benefiting from UK pageant

The Rainbow Unique Nursery and Pre-school at New Montrose stands a chance to benefit greatly, through the Miss and Mr Afro-Caribbean UK Scholarship pageant.{{more}}

The pageant is the first of its kind in the United Kingdom to offer an educational scholarship, and was developed to encourage men and women to further their education and to be an inspiration to the younger and older generation.

It is also designed to help many underprivileged children in need, through its charity contributions, as proceeds from the contest will go towards building schools in developing countries and furnishing them with necessary educational tools.

38-year-old Antoinette Peters bears the title of St Vincent and the Grenadines and has chosen the New Montrose based, Rainbow Unique Nursery and Pre-school as the institution to benefit from her participation.

Peters, who visited St Vincent and the Grenadines recently, spent time at the school with its students.

“I’m getting to know them on a personal basis. I had the honour of going on an outing with them. It’s amazing to see their interest in education. They have very high aspirations. All the children are telling me they want to be doctors and lawyers,” Peters said, at a press conference at the Ministry of Culture conference room last week.

She also revealed that the school threw a tea party in her honour, an event that was also attended by current Miss SVG, Shara George.

Peters, whose parents originate from Chester Cottage, thanked the manager of the pre-school, Doris Hope, for the exceptional support that she has received.

“It’s nice to know that I’ve been received so well and I’m really pleased that I can have the support of St Vincent. It’s been absolutely fantastic and I can only go back and say great things,” she said.

Hope described Peters as very energetic and a very exceptional person.

“She is very passionate about young people and about helping people, so we are willing to be her hosts to promote our campaign,” she said.

“However, we encourage her to come around so that people of St Vincent can see and meet her for themselves”.

In that vein, Peters was taken to the Windward side of the island to experience the beauty and people of the island.

A voting aspect of the competition is in effect, which requires persons to vote for a contestant by liking their Facebook page.

“I would like to encourage the whole of St Vincent and the Grenadines to vote for Antoinette, because she will be helping to put St Vincent and the Grenadines on the map,” Hope said.

Forty per cent of votes in the competition will come from likes on Peters’ Facebook page.

In the event that Peters wins the pageant, she will donate a portion of her winnings to the Rainbow Unique Nursery and Pre-school to aid in its developmental process.

The pageant will take place on October 5 in London, between 23 male and female contestants from across the Caribbean and Africa.

The public can vote for Peters via Facebook by visiting Antoinette Peters MMACUK.(BK)
