Lions Club South: Club of the Year

A delegation of Lions and Leos from St Vincent and the Grenadines has returned to the state after attending the 33rd Multiple District 60 Convention at the St Kitts Marriot.{{more}}

The highlight of the convention for the Vincentian Lions and Leos, and by extension Region 3 and Zone 3 C, was the installation of Lion Isaac Solomon, MJF, as First Vice District Governor in preparation for his election to District Governor at next year’s convention.

Similarly, it was a time of great celebration for the members of the Lions Club St Vincent South, having received the much coveted award of Lions Club of the Year for Sub-District 60 B which consists of Lions clubs from Cayman in the north to Grenada in the south. The club was also recognized for having the ‘most creative fund-raising project’ and its newly formed Leo Club St Vincent South received the award for the best World Leo Day Logo, submitted by Leo Martin Sheen.

Prior to the Multiple District Convention in St Kitts, The Lions Club St Vincent South received all three awards at the April 20 Zone Meeting, held in St Vincent and the Grenadines. The club won Lions Club of the Zone for the year; Lion Ronald Christopher received the award for President of the Year and Lion Dionne John received the award for Secretary of the Year in Zone 3 C. Zone 3 C consists of Lions and Leo clubs in St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada.

Several members of the Lions Club St Vincent South were also selected to serve in key positions in the new District Governor Jamaican Lion Izett Mcculla’s Cabinet for the 2013/2014 lionistic year. Apart from Lion Isaac Solomon as First Vice District Governor, the complement will also include Lion Junior Bacchus as Region 3 Chairman, overseeing clubs in Barbados, St Lucia, Grenada and SVG; Lion Artis Davis as Zone 3 C Chairman and Lion Dionne John as Associate Membership Chair for Region 3. Several of the club’s projects, including the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Health Mission, also came in for high praise by outgoing District Governor Lion Claudius Buncamper.

Incoming Region Chair Lion Junior Bacchus was among three Lions from the District being awarded with a Melvin Jones Fellowship (MJF) for his outstanding contribution to the Lions Movement.

Over the four days, delegates at the convention were involved in meetings, training workshops, cultural events, parade of countries in national wear throughout the streets of Basseterre and a Council of Governor’s Ball, to name a few.

The Multiple District 60 Convention was held under the theme “raising the level of service.”
