13 in New Song competition in NY

Level Vibes Promotion will this Saturday launch Vincy Mas 2013 in New York, with its annual New Song competition.{{more}}

Held with the objective of promoting early preparation for Vincy Mas, the event will see 13 artistes take to the stage with their new songs for 2013.

Two newcomers David “Chan I aka Yellow” Morgan and Darren “Briskie” Henry will join other seasoned artistes like defending Champion Paul “I-Madd” Scrubb, former winners Frankie “Wise Guy” Thomas, Tyrone “Fabulous T” Pierre, and two-time champion Francis “Striker” Browne.

John “The Truth” Dougan, Owen “Vibes SVG” Joyette, Philmore “Philly Dilly” John, Dennis “Honey Boy” Jackson, Melvin “Bobb MC” Bobb, Novie “Kappa” Da Costa and Kenroy “Jackie” Jack, complete the cast of thirteen.

Artistes are vying for the Soca Devil Trophy with the three top positions receiving cash prizes.

The competition, which began in 2007, is seen by Ainsley Primus, one of the organizers, as serving its purpose.

“The show is doing what it set out to do…. We are seeing a higher standard and the quality is quite good… Before we were getting the material late, but now the artistes are presenting their material much earlier,” Primus said.

Tomorrow’s show will be staged at Bamboo Garden 9505 Ave L, corner of East 95th. Show time is 11p.m., and Primus said he expects a “good turnout.”

Held simultaneously with the blast off of Vincy Mas in St Vincent and the Grenadines, the show will also have two featured artistes: Winston Soso and Lively – the inaugural New Song winner. Music will be provided by DJs Lagga, EZ sounds and Supa Eyes.

Patrons can also win season passes to Vincy Mas shows at Victoria Park, compliments the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports and Carnival Development Corporation.(RT)
