Schools’ watchmen and security guards being trained

The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and Works and the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, has started a series of one-day workshops for persons involved in providing watchmen and security services to the nations teaching-learning institutions.{{more}}

The first cohort of 26 persons was exposed to an intensive theoretical and practical one-day session that took place at the Questelles Learning Resource Centre on Tuesday.

The workshop participants were exposed to a variety of topics, including the rudiments of a good security person, the ingredients of a good report, tools of the trade, knowing the reporting protocol, and understanding the participants of teaching-learning institutions in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Sergeant Atland Browne and Station Sergeant Hesian Ballantyne of the Major Crime Unit were the technical resource personnel who conducted the training. Executive officer with responsibility for the watchmen in the Ministry of Transport and Works Donna Ollivierre, and director of the Division of Adult and Continuing Education Frances Clarke, also addressed certain industrial and work related matters.

The next workshop session is scheduled to take place at the Questelles Learning Resource Centre on Wednesday, May 22.

These workshops will continue on a zonal basis throughout the nation in an effort to ensure that there is a harmonized practice nationwide, a release from the Ministry of Education said.

This initial workshop session was hosted by the Adult and Continuing Education Zone 6, through its zonal coordinator Ann Jones and was chaired by senior education officer responsible for Adult and Continuing Education John “Zan” George.
