The conference, which runs from April 15 to 18, 2013, has as its theme: “Keeping the right balance: Enhancing destination sustainability through products, partnerships, profitability.”

The team of six comprises students in the Department of Hospitality and Agriculture: Aubrey Burgin, Jenelle Williams, Levonna Gibson, Adicia Dick, Jahdake Soleyn, with their chaperone being Azubah Adams, coordinator of the Travel and Tourism programme.

One of the highlights of this conference is the staging of the Caribbean Tourism Drama Festival Competition, in which the students will perform a ten minute skit on the topic: “No two generations see eye to eye: The use of social media vs traditional marketing to promote our tourism product.” This competition will be held on Thursday, April 18, at the National Academy for Performing Arts (NAPA) in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

The top three finalists will then showcase their winning pieces at the final Youth Forum later that evening at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad.

This Youth Forum provides students with an opportunity to establish a network for further cooperation on a regional level; to discuss common concerns; and to discover new roles for themselves in tourism development. Moreover, it presents an opportunity for the voices of our regional youth to be heard on the different issues relating to tourism in their countries, a release from the Community College said.
