Taiwan funding procurement of medical equipment

The Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has provided the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines with EC$623,515 for the procurement of medical equipment, including Fluoroscopy,{{more}} Portable X-ray, Washers and Driers, Suction Machines, Vital Sign Monitors.

The cheque was handed over to Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves by Ambassador H.E. Weber Shih as part of the grant for 2012 Civic Development Programme. The medical equipment will be deployed at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH).

A release from the Taiwanese Embassy said “upon deployment of the equipment, the MCMH will be better equipped to provide quality and effective healthcare at the secondary level of the system and will be able to resolve a number of outstanding issues such as the inability to deliver care due to mal-functioning or outdated equipment. It is expected that there will be a significant reduction in the down time on critical pieces of medical equipment and an overall improvement of MCMH ‘s ability and capacity to deliver healthcare to the citizens.”

According to the Taiwanese Embassy, apart from the above-mentioned medical equipment, Taiwan will also donate two 40-foot containers of medical equipment, which has been shipped to Kingstown and will be handed over to the SVG Ministry of Health shortly. This is the third donation of the kind, made possible by member hospitals of the “Global Medical Instruments Support and Service” (GMISS) Programme, an organization joining the effort of ROC Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Health in conducting medical care and public heath cooperation with its diplomatic allies.
