On March 28, Minister of Housing, Montgomery Daniel handed over to Dennis Williams the keys to his new home.

Daniel noted that he had met Williams while visiting the area and he was not pleased with the living conditions of this physically challenged man. He added that he brought this to the attention of the HLDC, who was at the time assisting persons with terrible living conditions in St Vincent and the Grenadines. Daniel noted that Williams was using outside bathroom facilities and his roof was in a deplorable condition.

Daniel said that through the HLDC, they were able to renovate Williams’ home and he is very happy that they have been able to restore his living quarters. He said Mr Williams’ home is now habitable and he urged him to maintain the condition of his home.

Meanwhile, general manager HLDC (Ag) Robert France said he is happy that the HLDC is continuing its mandate to assist Vincentians in improving their living conditions. France added that he is happy for Williams, as his existing living conditions were terrible.

The elated recipient of the house, Dennis Williams, expressed gratitude to the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines and the HLDC for coming to his assistance.

“I feel so good because the position I was in was really devastating,” he said. Williams described the act of the HLDC and, by extension the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines as a miracle, noting that only in a thousand years a country gets a government that comes to the assistance of the poor.(API)
