From March 29 – 31, athletes from across the Caribbean will gather in Nassau, the Bahamas, for the 42nd annual Carifta Track and Field Championships. The event takes place under the theme, “A Celebration of Caribbean Unity” and regional financial institution, CIBC FirstCaribbean, has announced its involvement as a sponsor of the event.

St Vincent and the Grenadines will be represented by a six-member delegation, comprising four athletes, a coach and a manager/chaperone. CIBC FirstCaribbean’s support to Team Athletics is in addition to its involvement as a sponsor of the event, in the Bahamas.

In handing over the cheque to representatives of Team Athletics SVG, country manager Elroy John noted that the sponsorship is in keeping with the bank’s involvement in projects that promote the development of the region’s young people, through its charitable Community Trust Foundation. He also reiterated CIBC FirstCaribbean’s commitment to investing in our region’s young people.

Keith Joseph of Team Athletics SVG expressed his organisation’s gratitude for help in defraying some of the costs associated with sending Team Athletics SVG to the Games, noting that it was a timely and welcome gesture.

The 2013 CARIFTA Games will take place at the Thomas Robinson Stadium in Nassau. It is the seventh occasion on which the event is being hosted in the Bahamas in its 42-year history.
