The event, which is being held in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, will be held at the Questelles Learning Resource Centre.
The Heritage Festival will include a public speaking competition, where youths aged 14 to 17 will debate the topic “Joseph Chatoyer should not be this country’s National Hero”.
Participants will be expected to suggest potential names for consideration as National Hero here in St Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as give their rationale.
“The hosting of the Public Speaking event is to give our youth an avenue to join in the on-going national conversation on the issue of National Heroes,” a release from Hairouna says.
The second part of the event will see the hosting of a Cultural Exhibition, where Vincentian art, literature, food and products will be exhibited. Anthony Theobalds, Director of Culture, will deliver the feature address at the Heritage Festival. Many local dishes will be available for sample.
The Hairouna Progressive Organization is holding this event in keeping with their âthrust to engender national pride within our citizens, raise consciousness on issues, as well as to conserve our cultural heritageâ, the release said.
