Young, who originally hails from Park Hill, but now resides in Canouan, walked away with the accolade of King of the Park in the Canouan leg of the Karib Cable 15th annual kite flying competition, which was held last weekend in Canouan at the Canouan Recreational Centre.

Young, whose traditional home-made design box kite won from a field of 30 other kites, collected his prize of two cases of Fruta box juices, compliments FACEY, kiss cakes gift pack and cake from Premier distributor, a trophy, medal and a TV set, compliments Karib Cable.

“I told my friends when I heard Karib Cable was coming down here with their kite flying competition that I was going to win this. It was just a boast, because I really didn’t know I would win. But being crowned king, and knowing I am the first winner in Canouan, will go down in the history book,” said a delighted Young, as he was crowned king at the Canouan Recreational Centre.

“I want to thank everyone at Karib Cable on behalf of the Canouan people for bringing this event down here and, with God’s blessing, I am looking forward to representing Canouan in the finals at Rabacca and to defend my crown next year.”

Other notable winners from the Canouan leg of the competition were three-year-old Dellicia King who coped the under-ten category; Rockesha, who won the 11 to 15 category; 34-year-old Kyron Roberts, who won the 16 plus category; 63-year-old American Carol, the oldest flyer category; 18-month-old baby Xavier Charles, who won the youngest flyer category. The Original Kite category was won by Phyllis, also known as DQ’s; the Smallest Kite was won by Carlton Baptiste; the Largest Kite, a whopping eight feet, was won by Conway and Best Flyer was Kyron Roberts.

“I want to thank the people of Canouan for their continued support of the Karib Cable brand,” said Vance Garraway marketing executive of Karib Cable.

“This year’s Kite Flying Competition was another outstanding community event sponsored by Karib Cable with a very good turnout of kite flying competitors. It was a pleasure to see boys and girls of all ages and entire families taking part in this competition. I am really looking forward to taking this event to the people of Bequia on Sunday, March 17 and then to the finals at Rabacca on March 24.”
