CDC will not tolerate “bad behaviour” — Dennis Ambrose
Carnival revellers planning to attend the 2013 rural carnival activities are being advised that the CDC will not tolerate “bad behaviour” at these events.{{more}}
The warning was issued by chairman of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) Dennis Ambrose last week at a press conference, which was held for the official launch of the poster and view cards for Vincy Mas 2013.
“Carnival is not about hostility and bad behaviour,” Ambrose firmly stated.
“I reiterate that the CDC condemns this kind of conduct and ask those of you who have difficulty controlling yourself to refrain from bringing your bad behaviour to these eventsâ¦
“We have the reputation of keeping our carnival activities clean and safe and we have every intention, and will use all mean of preserving that reputation,” the chairman added.
Ambrose further explained that concerns expressed by some members of the public and the police regarding the continued expansion of rural carnival have caused the CDC to seek measures to reduce the number of rural activities.
“We understand the logistical and security challenges and frankly the misconduct which occurred last year at some of the rural events are beyond our expectation and sent a very negative signal about our national festival,” he said.
The chairman disclosed that the CDC is having ongoing dialogue with the relevant parties and there are recommendations with respect to merging some of the activities in order to better control and have greater support for the activities.
“This is more likely to be more favourable, particularly in areas where there is close proximity of towns having those activities,” Ambrose said.
Vincy Mas 2013 will be officially launched on Saturday, May 4. (AA)
