Chairman of the CDC Dennis Ambrose made the announcement on March 5, at a press conference to officially launch the Poster and View Cards for Vincy Mas 2013.
The changes include making the Miss Carival show, which features beauty queens from around the region, the opening event for the carnival activities. The Miss Carival show is scheduled for June 28.
âWe believe that this will provide a better opportunity for the promotion of this event and gain greater public support,â Ambrose explained.
Another change to the programme is the Steel and Glitter show, which will be held on Friday, July 5.
âSo, they are moved to a later slot in the programme, so that they are on the weekend. Again, to encourage greater involvement in the show.â
The Steel and Glitter Show features the panorama and the sections from the bands competitions.
One of the most highly anticipated events each year, the Soca Monarch show, will be merged with the Ragga Soca competition into a Ragga and Power Soca show, which will be held on July 6, the chairman revealed.
âWe believe that the patrons will get an even bigger bang for their soca bucks. And we are confident about these changes, because we all know what happens with soca,â he added.
Ambrose also disclosed that the CDC will not be hosting the well known Fire Fete, as they had in previous years.
âThis creates an additional opportunity for the private promoters who wish to stage at this time on the calendar.
âThursday, July 4 is open to a similar opportunity. This is the CDCâs collaborative effort in the spirit of carnival for the ongoing development of Vincy Mas as an inclusive national festival,â the CDC chairman said.
Carnival will be officially launched on Saturday, May 4.(AA)
